This April has been a whirlwind of activity of highs and lows and I can't believe how quickly the month has flown by. We began the month of April with Carolyn getting 2nd (yes, 2nd) degree burns from sitting outside in the sun for two hours at a lunch outing and her first major ear infection since her tube surgery. The first doctor that we saw said that she might have a disorder that makes her skin intolerant to sunlight but her regular doctor (who just began a sabbatical from her profession- so sad) said this week that she hopes that just putting sunscreen on her every day, multiple times a day will solve the problem.
My grandma also went in the hospital again for her heart at the beginning of April and fell and broke her hip while in the hospital. Luckily my siblings and I all were in town for Easter weekend and were able to spend time with her at the hospital each of the 3 days we were home because a few days after her hip replacement surgery the effort of recovery just was too much on her heart and she joined my grandpa in heaven. It's really surreal to see your last biological grandparent die and also see your parent grapple with the fact that both of their parents are now dead. I cannot count how many times each week I pick up the phone to call my grandma (usually when I am out for a walk or driving home from work because that's when I used to call her) only to remember that she is no longer here. While it's hard, we know that she is now in a better place. In fact, I read the book "Heaven is for real- for Kids" today just to remind myself of how happy and free of pain grandma now is. While I will miss her weak coffee, her blue eye shadow, our talks at her kitchen table, and so much more I know that I am extremely lucky to have had my grandma in my life for almost 30 years (she died 7 days before my 30th birthday so it was weird not receiving a card from her for the first time in my life).
Speaking of birthdays, I turned 30 last week. Which actually wasn't as bad as I thought it might be but that might be in part because things have been so crazy I hadn't really had time to think about it. I was extremely blessed to receive so much love from all of my family and friends. We celebrated on Saturday night with a dinner at Corner Wine Bar and a shindig with friends at Thr3e Wise Men and I feel so blessed to have so many great people in my life.
Carolyn will turn 15 months in just a few days and I will post about her next but that's a quick overview of what was a crazy month of April.
