Adventures in Baby Food Making Part 2

Two weekends ago I spent most of Saturday night and some of Sunday prepping, boiling or baking, and packaging baby food for Carolyn.  Here are some pictures chronicling the journey.

Peeled and chopped carrots

Clean containers

Coffee - very necessary

Jeffy aka "the cleaner"- he was more than willing to help pick up anything that fell on the floor as well as eat any scraps I threw his way - he loves his veggies!

Puree'd carrots anyone? (how do I get that mark above the e?!?!)

And tada.....

Carrots, Green Beans, Apples, Peas, Sweet Potatoes, and Butternut Squash all sorted, packaged, and ready for eating!

State Fair

We went to the Indiana State Fair on Friday afternoon and Carolyn was introduced to all sorts of new experiences.  Jesse and I devoured our share of "very healthy" food and spent time introducing Carolyn to some of the farm animals (she even pet a horse!).   As a side note, it was a very somber experience to walk past the site of the stage collapse where six people lost their lives last Saturday.  Their families and friends are in our prayers.

Here are some pictures of the Noneman evening at the fair.

Bad picture of me but it is important to see the before and after shots!

Carolyn's first experience at Hook's.  She was really into our Root Beer Float while simultaneously playing with her foot (her new favorite interest).

 Horses

This Belgian horse was literally the biggest horse I had ever seen.  His shoulder height was at least 7'.

The final food tally:
2 lemon shake-ups
M&M Candy Apple
Root Beer Float
Fried Green Tomatoes
Pork Tenderloin Sandwich
Fried Klondike Bar (that was all Jesse)

Carolyn the Foodie

Carolyn has been busy trying all sorts of new foods (some with more success than others).  Here is what she has tried so far.

The "I love to eat" awards go to:
Sweet Potatoes
Bananas
Carrots
Peas
Oatmeal

The "I'll eat because I have to but I will make faces doing it and spit half of it out" awards go to:
Green Beans
Pears (unless they are mixed with bananas)
Peas (yes, I realize that these were also in the "love list"... it depends on the day for her)

Homemade Baby Food: Sweet Potatoes and Peas were a winner but the Green Beans got two thumbs down.

First Day of Day Care

Carolyn had her first day at day care. Despite not sleeping very well last night or during the day (two short 35 minute naps are not the norm!) and quite the early morning she got a glowing report and seemed to do very well overall.  Most surprisingly of all... no tears from mommy!

Here are two pictures of us dropping her off.

Adventures in Baby Food Making Part 1

As mentioned in Carolyn's 6 month post I am hoping to make most of her baby food.  The plan is to go through the basics (sweet potatoes, green beans, squash, etc.) trying it first with the Gerber brand and then after making sure she isn't allergic to that food making it myself.  First up was sweet potatoes!

Kitchen Reno Complete

It's a few weeks late but here are a few pics from the kitchen project this summer.

Recap: We had these horrendous home project stained cabinets from the previous owners and old laminate counter tops.

Now: We have sanded and repainted cabinets, new cream colored walls, and new granite counter tops.

Here are a few pictures!

 New counter tops

We added a few extra inches to this counter to make room for our knife set.
 Wine anyone?!?!

All 3 components of the kitchen renovation
Fresh vegetables from the garden and farmers market!

Jeffy in his normal spot hoping for some table scraps.

--- SiX months ---

Carolyn turned six months old last Sunday and had her appointment with the pediatrician yesterday.  Here is the latest on our precious little girl! She amazes us every day with how much she is growing and developing.

Weight and Height: 19 lbs and 27 inches (90th percent in both- I am one healthy girl!)

Eating: I am feeding 5 times a day and have been eating oatmeal cereal for the last month (that rice stuff just slowed my digestion down too much!) I have also started "real" baby food. I started the sweet potatoes yesterday (see video below) and I can't wait to try apples and peas next.  Mom is planning on making my baby food so hopefully I like her cooking! I also have started trying to drink water from a sippy cup.  The doctor said that I can have 6 ounces a day.

Sleeping:  Still going to bed between 6 and 6:30 at night.  I have started partaking in a little bit of the "6 month night-wakings" but overall I still really like my sleep.  I still take two naps a day and sleep anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours.

Moving:  I am moving myself around quite a bit lately.  I am still not crawling but I am thinking about it and have figured out plenty of ways to switch positions without that crawling stuff.

Talking: Still love telling everyone what I think about everything.

Sitting:  I love sitting and most of the time I am not satisfied to be on my back lying down. And I REFUSE to sit in my carseat anymore if we are at a restaurant.  I want to be in a high chair and involved in the action.

Toys: Love 'em! Sophie Giraffe is my favorite!

Day care: I start it Monday.  I am sure I will do great, it's mom I am worried about.  She has been near tears all day!

Here are some pictures!

Loves the toes!

Getting ready to go and visit day care and drop off supplies.

Not really sure what to think of the puffs.

Crazy hair day!

Loves to try and help with feedings as you can see it gets a little messy.

The cat quickly learned to move just out of reach of Carolyn's grasp after losing a few handfuls of hair.

Sleeping beauty.

Waiting for Dr. McManus

Her new favorite face!

Here is some video from Carolyn's first time eating sweet potatoes.  Her reaction is her typical response to everything we have tried so far.

A few pictures from the lake...
