1st Shopping Trip

Nanni Smith bought Carolyn some pretty snazzy outfits from Baby Gap when she visited this week.  Shopping is pretty hard though, so Carolyn decided that eating and sleeping at the mall was the best way to experience her first trip! 

One Month

Carolyn had her one month check up today and here is the latest!

Weight: 9 lbs 6 oz (she is quite the eater!)

Length: 20.5 in (an inch longer than when she was born)

Sleeping: working on getting better at this... some days and nights are better than others (she just likes to keep us guessing) 

Bathing: Beginning to realize that there are worse things in life, like diaper changes. 

Smiling: Starting to get this one down but every time we get out the camera to try and get a picture she decides that it is fun to start crying.

Playing: She is starting to like her swing more but she still isn't crazy about it but she does like her mobile and has growing interest in her playyard.

Outings: Despite not going out much the first month except to go to the pediatrician and the lactation consultants (not her favorite) she has had quite an eventful last few days.  In the last few days she has gone to Target, La Hacienda (it was great except that her carseat still smells like a Mexican restaurant despite airing outside twice... so it is spending the afternoon outside again), Keystone Mall, Bazbeaux's pizza, Babies R Us, Hubbard's and Craven (so mom could get a white mocha to go- quick trip but eh it still counts right?)  and daddy's work.  Each place she behaved wonderfully.

Week 3

Carolyn continues to grow and keeps getting more and more active each day.  She really likes to try and lift up her head and move her hands around but she can get really frustrated when her arms won't do what she wants them to do! She was up to a little over 8lbs last week at breastfeeding support group and we are still working on the whole nursing thing.  She mainly feeds by bottles but we are hopeful that pretty soon her tongue muscles will be strong enough for her to nurse.  Here are a few new pictures and we will post an update after her month check up next week! 

 Swinging in her swing...  she usually likes it for about 40 seconds... we are hoping that she begins to like it more to justify the purchase and give our arms a rest sometimes!

First Walk... (well, first walk to the end of the block)

Here are some pictures from Carolyn's first walk... or more accurately... our first attempt at a family walk.  We only made it to the end of our yard before Carolyn let us know she wasn't really feeling like going for a walk.  She did however get to try out her "Gap Baby Snow Bunny Onesie"(picture below).  You can't tell from the pictures but it actually has a white fluffy tail that you can snap on to the back as well.  Hopefully she won't always have such disdain for the great outdoors!

2 Weeks Old

A note from Carolyn: I had my 2 week check up today and the doctor said that I am doing great! I now weigh 8 pounds and have grown to 20 inches!  I am still working on figuring out how to nurse but am eating like a champ. I still don't like my baths too much but love getting wrapped up in my towel afterwards!   Here are some pictures from my first Valentine's Day... mom made me wear this too big onesie that said "You can call me sweetheart".  I was kind of grumpy yesterday but we managed to get a few pictures in!  I am very excited to meet my Grandma & Grandpa Noneman when they come to visit in a few days!

Carolyn celebrated being one week old by getting a good feeding in and then getting her one week washcloth bath.  Despite her complete frustration during the bath she calmed down as soon as we got her in her cozy sleeper from cousins Brittany and Matt, and little cousin Thomas!

 Preparing to leave for the hospital.  We went in Sunday evening to start the induction but went to one last leisurely brunch and church service without baby in tow.

 After quite a long labor that only resulted in me dilating 2cm the doctor recommended that we do a c-section so about 7:45 Monday evening (about 24 hours since we first started the induction process) we headed into the operating room and at 8:52 Carolyn Eileen was born.  She was very vocal in letting us know that she was ok, which made us ecstatic.  Mommy was very eager to see and hold her but it took a little while to get me finished up so I had to wait for daddy to bring her over for me to look at.

 Getting ready to go home.  I wasn't very happy about my first car experience and cried most of the way home.

 After navigating the treacherous roads, we had our next roadblock- getting to the house while walking on a sheet of ice.

 Daddy doing his best to clear the walkways.  The whole city of Indianapolis was sold out of salt, so until Grandpa Smith could bring some down from Ft. Wayne he had to bring buckets of hot water to pour on the ice and then break the ice up with a shovel.  Luckily on Saturday he had help from Auntie Erica.

Tonight we are going to celebrate my first week of life by taking my first bath!  More pictures to come later!
